The
New Media Venture Capital Program supports the government’s
commitment to stimulate investment in the thriving ‘New Media’
sector and is an add-on to the Equity Capital Program. In addition
to the
Equity Capital Program
criteria, an eligible small businesses must also be
substantially engaged
in the development within British Columbia for commercial
exploitation of
interactive digital
media products
that:

Educates,
informs or entertains and presents information using at least
two of the mediums of text, sound or visual images;

Is not
developed for internal corporate use involving the promotion of
products or services;

Is not used
primarily for interpersonal communication; and
-
Is not a
product for which public financial support would, in the opinion
of the certifying authority, be contrary to public policy.
An additional $5
million in tax credits over and above the Equity Capital Program
Budget is available for share capital that is invested in eligible
small businesses that qualify under this program.
Investments are raised through
Venture Capital Corporations
(“VCC”) or
Eligible Business Corporations
(“EBC”).
